No es la mas dura (aunque es MUY dura con sus 10.000 metros de desnivel positivo), no es la mas larga (aunque sus 170km se hacen laaaargos) ni (quizás) la mas bonita, pero sin ninguna duda la UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc) es la carrera de montaña mas importante del mundo.
Después de años de preparación, por fin me encontré en el arco de salida en Chamonix, rodeado de otros 2.500 “locos” de 80 nacionalidades diferentes. Teníamos por delante dos días y dos noches de esfuerzo físico que aun hoy me parece imposible realizar. De hecho 1 de cada 3 corredores no llegaría a meta… (que le pregunten si no a Kilian, Luis Alberto, Jim o Zach….)
La carrera pasa por tres países (Francia, Italia y Suiza), y transcurre por lugares increíbles, siempre con el Mont-Blanc vigilando en la distancia. En esta edición la climatología no fue la mejor posible, teniendo temperaturas de hasta 10 bajo cero en algunos picos.
Me hubiera gustado grabar mucho más para hacer un video más completo, pero el cansancio hizo mella y estaba en «modo supervivencia» en muchos tramos. Es el precio a pagar para Conquistar el Paraíso.

It is not the hardest (although it is VERY hard with its 10,000 meters of positive height difference), it is not the longest (although its 170km are made as long as possible) or (perhaps) the most beautiful, but without any doubt the UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc) is the most important mountain race in the world.
After years of preparation, I finally found myself at the starting arch in Chamonix, surrounded by another 2,500 «crazy people» from 80 different nationalities. We had two days and two nights of physical effort ahead of us that even today it seems impossible to perform. In fact 1 out of 3 runners would not reach goal … (ask if not Kilian, Luis Alberto, Jim or Zach ….)
The race passes through three countries (France, Italy and Switzerland), and passes through incredible places, always with the Mont-Blanc watching in the distance. In this edition the climatology was not the best possible, having temperatures of up to 10 below zero in some peaks.
I would have liked to record much more to make a more complete video, but the fatigue made a dent and was in «survival mode» in many sections. It is the price to pay to Conquer Paradise.
